Here are some general weather ideas for our area in South East Idaho...
Spring- February 22 marks the end of the 90 coldest days in our region and begins what meteorologists call spring. As most of the Intermountain West our spring can swing from warm and sunny to snow in a short time (and back again). It is best to be prepared for wet, and possibly cold weather and then be pleasantly suprised if it is warm and sunny instead. Once mud season dries up in the campground, usually April, camping can be done comfortably.
Summer- Late May usually marks the beginning of our summer season. We have very wide temperature swings from night time lows to day time highs because of our dry clear skies, 30-40 degree swings are normal. July can be in the 90's at peak temp and back down to the 50's at night. Therefore sweat shirts or jackets will be comfortable at both ends of the day. Our canyon gets the shade of the sun going behind the hill at least an hour before true sunset and of course cools off considerably sooner.
Autumn- We commonly have "Indian Summer" well in to October which gives us a pretty long camping season. Our Maple trees (Box Elder and Mountain Maples) usually go "technicolor" the last week of September; Often we can get enough wind to put all the leaves on the ground by a week or two in to October.
Winter- Usually weather gets cold in November but our first significant snows are not usually until after Thanksgiving and often nothing lasting until mid or late December. The sky is usually clear and blue when we are not having snow storms; We do not get fog or other inversions. We typically have snow on the ground from late December through late February or early March that is useable for snow shoeing or cross country skiing.
